Twentieth Century
( Webb/Schafer/Zempel )
Let's meet with
the old friends by the riverside
I'll go get my mandolin and you go fetch the wine
We'll go out for one more stroll beneath the starry skies
We'll smoke just one more bowl before the brave new world arrives
I've been thinking about the relic that I'll be
Goodbye to the 20th Century
Let's pretend we never left all those
things behind
Let down your safety net and I will let down mine
We'll exist as we once did momentarily
And if the laughter does not follow, after that I will concede
I'm just sifting through the wreckage that was me
Goodbye to the 20th Century
I've been thinking about
the relic that I'll be
Goodbye to the 20th Century
Goodbye to all
the things we won't become
(That's all been done)
What's left but hope for something better
(In days to come)
Goodbye, goodbye . . .etc
Tuxes, gowns and
party hats - Light up that cigar
Here's one more glass of champagne to be thrown into the fire
Soon memories and aching heads will fill our eyes with tears
So let's enjoy ourselves before the new day's sun appears
To find
us sifting through the wreckage that we'll be
And looking back as far as we can see
Goodbye to the 20th Century
Goodbye, goodbye,
goodbye . . . etc
